The Bombing of Peral Harbor

Picture
Pearl Harbor Naval Base, Hawaii, was attacked by Japanese torpedo and bomber planes on December 7, 1941. The surprise attack sparked outrage among the American population.

The base was attacked by Japanese fighters, bombers and torpedo planes in two waves, launched from six aircraft carrires.

The attack was intended to neutralize the U.S. Pacific fleet and thus protect Japan's advance into Malaya and the Dutch East Indies, where Japan sought acess to natural resources. This was far from a complete success.

The attack led directly into America's entry into WWII.
